Baby Books?

Hi out there...anyone? I have a questions. It's an easy one.

One of the things I want to do for Tommy's 2nd birthday is to update his book collection. I will probably only get a short window of time to spend alone in the bookstore making selections, so I need as much help as I can get.

Can anyone recommend a great book or books for a toddler? Maybe you had a favorite book when you were little, or you have a toddler with a great book collection. Any ideas would be most welcome.

Mem Fox - Time For Bed
Possum Magic (not just for aussies)
Koala Lou
Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge

Sandra Boynton - Not the Hippotamus
Horns to Toes and in between
The Going to bed book
(and many more)

Beatrix Potter & AA Milne - classic favourites of every child.

Dr Seuss - go to op shops and pick up old pre-loved copies because they'll be loved my daughter has a particular fondness for One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

Singing books - Golden books of songs like The Wheels on the Bus

Try and find a copy of (golden book) Big Birds Red Book - a favourite of mine as a child and now a favourite of my daughters too.

Our grocery stores (Australia) have little golden books and small disney books in the check out lines (for about $3.50) one of these as a treat instead of lollies for being good while shopping is good and you build up a collection.
They're cheap, they've got familar stories big letters and pictures and it really doesn't matter to much if they are "loved"

There's a fanatstic book by Australian author Mem Fox called Reading Magic:Why Reading Aloud to Our Children Will Change Their Lives Forever
I highly recommend it.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle.

It is great for counting and

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, not sure of the author, but it is great for ABC's

My kids love both books!

Also, the "How do Dinosaurs..."
series is great!

I'll share some favorites around here that haven't already been named:

Oh, The Places You'll Go - Dr. Seuss. Great for ANY age.

Go Dog Go - P.D. Eastman - funny and teaches colors, positions, basic reading.

Why Is Blue Dog Blue? By George Rodrigue (not a typo; that's how he spells his name). Teaches colors and a bit about being an artist.

Snappy Little Bugs & Snappy Little Farmyard (pop-up books) - great rhyming diction, nice illos.

Chugga Chugga Choo Choo - Kevin Lewis - a board book PERFECT for 2-year-olds, where that rhyming diction really appeals to them.
